Psychology

Midway University prepares students for a career in the field of psychology. The program emphasizes the breadth of psychology while building skills and providing fundamental knowledge for those interested in pursuing a career in any of the fields' occupational branches: counseling, therapy, and educational or developmental psychology.

Students of Midway University's Psychology degree program are also prepared for entry-level occupations in human services, including human resources, industrial, educational or governmental positions.

The Psychology degree is offered Online, and at our Midway and Lexington Campus. Midway also offers the Alcohol and Drug Counseling concentration at the Lexington Campus.

B.A. Psychology with concentration in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling

As a result of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the state of Kentucky (and others) has an increased demand for patient services in Alcohol and Drug Abuse CounselingThe new concentration will use current classes in Psychology and add courses specific to substance abuse and counseling for graduates to obtain licensing as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The concentration in Alcohol and Drug Counseling emphasizes the theories, methods and techniques utilized in Alcohol and Drug Counseling to provide the learner with the knowledge, skills and abilities to become an effective counselor in the discipline.

To earn the concentration, student must complete 18 hours of courses:

  • PSY 270 – Intro to Counseling Techniques
  • PSY 360 – Psychopharmacology
  • PSY 362 – Individual and Group Therapy
  • PSY 280 – Case Management
  • PSY 364 – Diagnosis and Assessment
  • PSY 370 – Beginning Practicum in Alcohol and Drug Counseling
  • PSY 470 – Advanced Practicum in Alcohol and Drug Counseling
